FROM CHINOS TO “AMERINDIANS”The Manila Galleons were Spanish trading ships which for two-and-a-half centuries linked the Spanish Captaincy.

Upon arrival in Mexico, they were grouped together and categorized as chinos…Although in reality they were of diverse origins, including Japanese, Koreans, Malays, Filipinos, Javanese, Cambodians, Timorese, and people from Bengal, India, Ceylon, Makassar, Tidore, Terenate, and China…In time, chinos in Mexico came to be treated under the law as Indians, becoming indigenous vassals of the Spanish crown after 1672…So called white Spaniard + Chino = Mestizo, Mexican & “Amerindian”
