BLACK INDIANS | Mildred Delores Jeter was an American Indian of the Cherokee and Rappahannock Tribe. The Government tried to classify her as an "African American" but her grandson wasn't having it. They made a movie about her and while he likes the overall theme of the movie, he takes offense that the film portrays his grandmother as African-American, when there's no evidence that she was. Her grandson said and I quote: "I know during those times, there were only two colors: white and blacks," said Loving. "But she was Native American, both of her parents were Native American." Her marriage license clearly says "Indian"
