EONS BEFORE EGYPT THERE WAS… The word Egypt comes from the ancient Greek name Aigyptos, after the conquest by Alexander, the Ptolemies ruled Egypt till the Roman conquest after which Christianity and then Islamic religions followed. In fact, the archaic English name for the country was Aegypt. Etymology: Old English Egipte “the Egyptians,” from French Egypte, from Greek Aigyptos “the river Nile, Egypt,” from Amarna Hikuptah, corresponding to Egyptian Ha(t)-ka-ptah “temple of the soul of Ptah,” the creative god associated with Memphis, the ancient city of Egypt. The Popol Vuh is the story of creation according to the Quiche Maya of the region known today as Guatemala. Translated as `The Council Book’, The Book of the People’ or, literally, `The Book of the Mat.’ The Popol Vuh chronicles the creation of Mankind, the actions of the gods, the origin and history of the K’iche’/Quiche Maya people, and the chronology of their kings down to 1550. The original book was discovered at the beginning of the 18th century by Francisco Ximénez (Jiménez), parish priest of Chichicastenango in highland Guatemala. Back in the 3,000’s B.C., the ancient Egyptian city was known by the name of Men-nefer (“the enduring and beautiful”) and was translated by the Greeks into Memphis. Today, Memphis is a city on the Mississippi River in southwest Tennessee. The city of Memphis was founded on land previously inhabited by Chickasaw Indians on May 22, 1819 (incorporated December 19, 1826) by John Overton, James Winchester and Andrew Jackson. It is said that they named it after the ancient capital of Egypt on the Nile River of America, the Mississippi.
